Leila Lopes Miss Universe 2011 gets uninvited to Rio do Janeiro´s Carnival

According to Caras magazine, one of the biggest in Brazil, samba school Unidos da Vila Isabel withdrew Lopes’ invitation to the biggest carnival in the world, due to the demands made by the organization.

Reigning Miss Universe, Leila Lopes of Angola, had been invited to be one of the ‘destaques’ (starring figures) during the parade of the Unidos da Vila Isabel samba school in Rio, since this year their theme is a tribute to Angola. It also includes a homage to Martinho da Vila, honorary president of the school, who actually had invited Lopes to take part in the festivities.

However, both Caras and UOL published that sources from the samba school withdrew the invitation due to the demands of the Miss Universe Organization, which included a payment of $50,000.00 USD, personal security, five-star hotel, and and an exclusive ‘camarote’ in the Sambodromo. Due to these high conditions, the Angolan beauty will no longer take part in the Rio Carnival.

In 2011, Unidos da Vila Isabel had the participation in their parade of the world’s #1 top model, Gisele Bundchen.

Also in 2011, before becoming Miss Universe, Leila Lopes took part in the parade of Samba School ‘Unidos da Tijuca’, in a float called “Gorillas in the Mist”.
